Smart IP cameras are very trendy. Early smart cameras were produced in 1980s but only recently their low price started a significant expansion in all kinds of applications.
So, what is the difference between traditional "dumb" camera and advanced smart camera? The smart camera doesn´t just record images, it extracts and delivers specific information from the captured images. This information comes directly from the smart camera. The image is not analyzed somewhere else. Smart cameras are independendent on other devices. It makes monitoring from multiple sites and provides more accurate image analysis.
Smart HikVision cameras cen detect any progressively moving object and follow it within the camera's area of coverage without fault.
Facial detection is further supported to ensure that an individual's face is present in the picture during tracking. A smart defog feature is also incorporated to help improve the clarity of images captured in poor weather conditions, such as rain or fog; and smart IR technology is added to address the problem of over-exposure of IR LEDs at the center of images.
Furthermore, another interesting feature is ROI (Region of Interest) encoding. This allows capture high resolution images of key information such as license plates and facial detection, and also decreases non-ROI’s image quality to save on overall bandwidth.
